Intuit Design Challenge

OVERVIEW

The Problem
Batman is a crime-fighting superhero looking to efficiently capture bad guys. However, fighting crime in real time is a difficult mission for superheroes like Batman.

The Task
Design a mobile app that allows Batman to find another superhero to help him capture the Joker.

Duration
4 Days, Individual Project

My Role
UX Research, UX Design, UI Design

Tools Used
Sketch, Figma

Understanding the User & Context

Sequence Model
Finding the UX Gaps
To better understand the context of the problem itself, I created a sequence map of the different steps that Batman goes through in the situation of a battle. This gave me better insight into the different decisions that he is making in this process and the intents or triggers behind each of these different decisions.

In particular, I was interested to see the different breakdowns in this process, as these are areas of opportunity for better solutions.

Insights from Sequence Model:

1). Collection of data about Villain & context of crime is highly more effective and quick with team collaboration- as seen in first breakdown.

2). Early collection of location information is prime to capture the Villain, and stop the crime asap.

3). There are multiple jobs in one crime scene- clear and effective communication of who is doing what throughout the whole battle is crucial.

Early Sketches
The First Picture

After establishing the design concept of the app experience, I started sketching some ideas that would provide solutions to the stakeholder's needs. Specifically, understanding the flows between the ideas was a high priority in this step of the process.

Insights from Early Sketches

1). Based on the previous research & insights, effective communication
is a high priority for features in the app.

2). This communication has to be updated in real time and has to be
easy to access- given the context of having to be used in battle.

3). A place to keep record is crucial- for other superheroes who can
     learn from each other.

First Wireframes
Mid-Fi Prototypes
After exploration of interaction flows between the different ideas, I dived into the more detailed aspects of the wireframes. Some important design decisions I made in this step, was focusing on how the style of the app could bring accessibility to the superheroes that would be using it. What could make the app experience simple to use, given the various time constraints that a use case scenario like a battle would bring?

Final Wireframes
High-Fi Prototypes
My main focus when designing the final prototype, was making sure the user flow was matching the intuitive actions and needs of the superhero in the process of before/during/after battle.

Reflections

Given this was the first time I was doing a full design project with such as tight time constraint, I tried to go through as many steps of the design process as possible.

I think I need more revisions after additional user testing and feedback on the current solutions I have. Another key feature I would develop more if I had more time, would be to design a separate user flow of the administrative view, such as the stakeholders with the police department.

Although the short time constraint was stressful, I learned a lot about how to prioritize and make a successful design, given the different needs of the problem space. This unique scope of the problem was also fun to work in!
